The German composer Joseph Martin Kraus (1756-92), also known as "the Swedish Mozart, wrote this ouverture for a revised setting of Voltaire's play "Olympie" (1761) premiered in Stockholm in 1792.
The style is often associated with the "Sturm und Drang" current.
